Yet Another Desktop Configuration

I chose to remove the top panel with this wallpaper, since that way it would appear more "open". The same wallpaper works well as a skydome, as well!

Hi, can you tell me what theme that is you're using for GTK? Really would like to have such a nice black look :)

Gavin said...

It's the "Neutronium Unity" theme, with my own emerald theme "grey-neu".

http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Neutronium+Unity?content=59189

make sure you follow the instructions included with the download of NU, to fix firefox, etc.

My theme is now included by default in Compiz Fusion.

what kind of music player is on this screen?

I use ubuntu Feisty Fawn. The music player is Rythmbox (comes with ubuntu). It might look cooler in black, I don't know. :D

Hi, Gavin, I'm a big fan of ubuntu. I got 7.10 and am a newbie. Thanks for showing us your theme, really kool. I got a question. How can I get your emerald theme, "grey-neo", as the theme for my desktop? I want it to look exactly the way you have it in the youtube clip.

Also, I can't view the cube on top or bottom. I can only see it side to side. How can I enable it so I can see all 6 sides of the cube? Thanks!

@taurusx5 (If you still are aware of this comment ;) )

The emerald theme is "Grey-NEU" and you should find it at gnome-look.org.

To see all of the cube, hold down either control-alt and drag, or middle mousebutton (scrollbar button) and drag.

This should do it, unless you mean 6 different desktops on the faces of the cube. That's not possible right now.

Gavin, thanks alot for that info. However, I have a laptop with no external mouse. All I got is the touchpad on my laptop, and of course, there's no scroll button on it like there is on a regular mouse. Could this be why I'm not able to view the 6 sides of the cube? Do I need a mouse connected to my laptop to see that? Thanks!

@Taurus:

Sandwiched in the middle of one of my confusing paragraphs was the fact that you can hold down control-alt and drag with the normal left mouse button to see the cube :) Hope that helps.

Tip: all settings can be changed if you have compizconfig-settings-manager (in ubuntu repos).

Hey, gavin... So, it is possible to view all six sides of the cube using the touchpad of my laptop? So, this means that I don't have to buy a mouse and connect it to my laptop?... Is this accurate?

Hey Gavin. I want my desktop to look like yours in this link: http://puttabutta.blogspot.com/. It's under the heading: Yet "Another Desktop Configuration" with clouds in the background. Second, I got my desktop to look like grey-neo but I can't open the file called '60824-gray-neu.emerald' that I downloaded from gnome-look.org. How do I install that file? Finally, I want to get the Mac thingy at the bottom just like you have it. What do I do to install that?

Sorry for the bother, but it's your fault for having such a kool desktop... Thanks, man.

@taurusx5:

Make sure Emerald is installed. Open up the Emerald Theme Manager (terminal: emerald-theme-manager) and choose "Import". Choose the .emerald file. Select it.

The dock is called Avant Window Navigator, and, since I haven't used it in a while, you should visit their website to find out how to install.

https://launchpad.net/awn << link for Avant Window Navigator.

Grey-Neu is the Emerald theme. It's now included in the Ubuntu emerald-themes package... You don't need to go on gnome-look.org anymore.

That's not the GTK theme though.
